The Grandeur of Mysore Palace: A Journey Through Royal Splendor🏰

Mysore Palace         Route map

Mysore Palace, also known as Amba Vilas Palace, is a historical palace and a royal residence. It is located in Mysore, Karnataka, India. It used to be the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore.

The palace is in the centre of Mysore, and faces the Chamundi Hills eastward. Mysore is commonly described as the 'City of the Palaces', and there are seven palaces including this one. However, the Mysore Palace refers specifically to the one within the new fort.

The land on which the palace now stands was originally known as mysuru (literally, "citadel"). The first palace inside the Old Fort was built in the 14th century, which was set ablaze and reconstructed multiple times. The Old Fort was built of wood and thus easily caught fire, while the current fort was built of stone, bricks and wood.

Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempananjammanni Devi commissioned the British architect Henry Irwin to build a new palace.

E.W. Fritchley worked as a consulting engineer. Meanwhile, the royal family stayed in the nearby Jaganmohan Palace. Construction was overseen by an executive engineer in the Mysore Palace division.

He conducted elaborate architectural studies during his visits to Delhi, Madras, and Calcutta, and these were used to plan the new palace. The construction cost was placed at Rs 41,47,913 (around $ 30 million adjusted to inflation) and the palace was completed in 1912.

India's ‘First ever’ glass bridge now open in southernmost tip 🩷Kanniyakumari🩷

Glass bridge connecting Vivekananda memorial, Thiruvalluvar statue

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated a glass bridge connecting the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-feet Thiruvalluvar statue in the Kanyakumari district.

The structure claimed to be the first such one in India, was inaugurated to mark the silver jubilee of the unveiling of the renowned Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar's statue by late chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The glass bridgeconnecting the two monuments offers visitors a breathtaking view of the sea. “It provides a thrilling experience of walking above the sea,” a tourist official told news agency PTI.

According to the state government, the bowstring arch on the glass bridge has been designed to withstand the saline breeze from the sea and high humidity.

Tourists who used to travel between the two historical monuments on a ferry can now walk over the glass bridge and reach the other end quickly.

The Rs 37-crore project in Kanyakumari was undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated a new glass bridge that connects the Vivekananda Memorial and Thiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari.

The bridge, designed to offer a unique visual experience, features a transparent glass surface that provides visitors with breathtaking views of the sea below.

Mr Stalin shared a video of the bowstring-shaped bridge on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, giving a bird's-eye view of the architectural marvel. The clip showcased the intricate design and the panoramic surroundings. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister also took a walk across the bridge.

All about India's first-ever glass bridge in Tamil Nadu

The glass bridge spans 77 metres (252 feet) in length and 10 metres in width, connecting two of the region's most iconic landmarks — the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-foot tall Thiruvalluvar statue.

It offers visitors an immersive experience, providing unobstructed views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. Apart from improving the visual appeal of the area, it also provides a more accessible and scenic route between these two monuments.

Earlier, tourists had to rely on a ferry service to travel from the Kanyakumari boat jetty to the Vivekananda Memorial, and then on to the Thiruvalluvar statue.

With the inauguration of the glass bridge, visitors can now take a leisurely walk between the two monuments, cutting down on travel time and offering a more comfortable alternative.
